The Night Always Comes
Willy Vlautin

AN AFTERNOON WITH AWARD-WINNING AUTHOR AND MUSICIAN WILLY VLAUTIN

On Saturday, November 18th, 2023 the Friends of the Seaside Public Library will welcome author and musician Willy Vlautin for a book talk and some songs. Vlautin will discuss his latest novel “The Night Always Comes” and will also play some original tunes that accompany his works. His novels tell the stories of America’s unsung working class, and have been described as brave, scorching, and remarkable. The event will take place at 2:00 p.m. in the Community Room and there will be a time afterwards for a Q&A.

In his sixth novel, “The Night Always Comes”, Vlautin explores the idea of the American dream and the impacts of gentrification, greed, and opportunism on ordinary, working class lives. This scorching, noir-ish tale follows a young woman, Lynette, over the course of two days and nights as she endeavors to secure the money needed to buy the house she rents with her mother and developmentally disabled brother.

Born and raised in Reno, Nevada, Vlautin has published six novels, “The Motel Life” (2007), “Northline” (2008), “Lean on Pete” (2010), “The Free” (2014), “Don’t Skip Out on Me” (2018), and “The Night Always Comes” (2021). His latest novel “The Horse” will be published in 2024 by Harper Collins. Both “The Motel Life” and “Lean on Pete” have been turned into major motion pictures. Vlautin also founded the bands Richmond Fontaine and the Delines. He currently resides in Scappoose, Oregon.
