3D Printing Request Seaside Public Library 3D Printing The Seaside Public Library maintains and furnishes a 3D Printer for use by the community. The 3D Printer is a resource available for educational and personal use. It is not to be used for commercial purposes or to manufacture or copy materials or goods to be sold to the public at large. Use of the 3D Printer shall be subject to these policies and procedures, the Library’s Acceptable Use Policy governing computer and computer access, and all other policies and procedures of the Library. The library’s 3D printer is available to the public for educational purposes to make three-dimensional objects in plastic using a design that is uploaded from a digital computer file. No policy can foresee every instance in which the 3D printer may be used, and the Library reserves the right to amend these policies at any time, or in order to respond to a specific situation. Generally, though the following guidelines shall be followed: I. The library’s 3D printer may be used for purposes that are lawful and/or safe. Patrons will not be permitted to use the library’s 3D printer to create material that is: Prohibited by local, state or federal law. Unsafe, harmful, dangerous or poses an imminent threat to the well-being of others, including but not limited to drug paraphernalia and weapons. (Such use may violate the terms of use of the 3D printer design software.) In violation of federal, state or local laws or regulations regarding accessing, viewing, printing and distributing obscenity or child pornography. In violation of another’s intellectual property rights or the 3D printer design software terms of use. For example, the printers shall not be used to reproduce material subject to copyright, patent, trademark or trade secret protection. II. In addition to the above, the Library reserves the right to refuse any 3D print request. Generally, all 3D printing projects should be capable of being completed within twelve hours. III. 3D printing at the library costs $.10 a gram to offset the purchase of the filament. IV. If a print fails, staff will, at the patron’s request, attempt one (1) free reprint. V. If an object is printed with rafts and/or supports, the patron is responsible for removing them. Completed prints will be held for thirty (30) days after the patron is notified that a print is complete. After that time, said prints become the property of the library and may be disposed of as the library sees fit. VI. Supervision of the use of the 3D printer by library staff does not constitute knowledge, or acknowledgement, of any unapparent final use of the 3D product, or misuse thereof, and the Library specifically disclaims any knowledge thereof. The Library makes no warranties as to the quality, stability, or fitness of any object created with the use of the 3D Printer. It is not responsible for any object created with the use of said equipment, including any harm or injury incurred as a result of any usage of said equipment. About the Seaside Public Library Mission Statement The Seaside Public Library is dedicated to promoting literacy, providing access to information and resources that enrich our diverse community, and fostering a love of learning.

The library displays art exhibits in the Community room and Lobby. We also have a permanent collection that may be found throughout the library. Art @ The Library Beginning November 4th, 2023 and running through January 2nd, 2026, the Seaside Public Library will host “Quilts of Many Colors,” an art show featuring the work of nine local quilt artists. The quilts will be hanging in the Community Room and foyer and represent a variety of styles and techniques. This show features quilts from artists Cherry Harris, Toni Tweedle Healy, Jan Surbrook, Katie Paaso, Lynda Newell, Judy Carder, Karen Hurd, Janice Schock, and Caroline Peterschmidt. The Seaside Public Library Joins One Book, One Coast, the West Coast’s Largest Book Club Connecting Communities Across Three States. This spring, the Seaside Public Library invites the community to take part in One Book, One Coast, a shared reading initiative connecting more than 130 library systems across California, Oregon, and Washington. As the largest book club on the West Coast, One Book, One Coast brings readers together around one book to create opportunities for conversation, reflection, and meaningful connection across neighborhoods, cities, and state lines. The Seaside Public Library and its partners will read and discuss They Called Us Enemy by George Takei, Steven Scott, and Justin Eisinger, and illustrated by Harmony Becker. The library has multiple copies of the book available to borrow. Unlimited digital copies of the eBook will be available from April 1 - June 6 through our digital platform. And thanks to the generous support of the Seaside Library Friends & Foundation , 25 copies of the book are available to the community free of charge to take, read, share, and then keep or return to the library for other members of the community to enjoy. Through this shared reading experience, communities are encouraged to explore themes of identity, patriotism, family, loyalty, and resilience while strengthening connections through dialogue and learning. Volunteer at the Seaside Public Library! Why volunteer at the library? Volunteers are vital to the operation and resources offered at the library in ways seen and unseen. Our community benefits by everyone who dedicates their time, no matter how long, at the Seaside Public Library. By committing yourself as a volunteer you can learn new skills while serving alongside our team with a schedule that works for you. What kinds of tasks do volunteers engage in? Volunteers at the library typically assist with at least one of the following: Provide easy access of available physical materials through re-shelving of returned items. Ensure materials can be effortlessly located in the collection by straightening and confirming materials are correctly organized. Properly prepare new materials to be added to the collection. Appropriately mend damaged materials. Take on special projects as assigned. Is there a time commitment for volunteering? Time commitments and possible schedules will be discussed during the application and interview process. There is no minimum time commitment we ask of our volunteers and we do our best to accommodate preferences while balancing the needs of the library. What are the steps to becoming a volunteer? 1) Print out a Seaside Public Library volunteer application or pick one up at the library. Fill it out as best as you can and return the completed application to the library. One note before applying is that the Seaside Public Library does not participate in offering community service hours for those looking to satisfy that requirement. 2) Meet with the Assistant Library Director for an interview. If selected for an interview, you will be contacted to schedule a day and time to meet. 3) If selected for a position, you will work out a schedule with the Assistant Library Director, come in for a few training shifts, and then you’ll start your volunteer journey!
